The Genealogical Association of Sacramento (G.A.S.) was founded in 1976, the year of our Nation’s 200th birthday, with a nucleus of 13 dedicated members. Our objectives are to encourage the research, publication, and preservation of genealogical and historical material; and to instruct and assist members and the public in modern methods of research. We do this by holding regular monthly meetings and workshop and by organizing field trips and other educational activities. There is usually something for everyone at our meetings, from beginners to more experienced genealogists.
We meet on the third Wednesday of each month except July, August and December at 12 noon at the Belle Cooledge Library, 5600 South Land Park Drive, Sacramento, CA 95831.
We produce a monthly newsletter. The current issue is available on our web site for everyone; the archive is for members-only access.
We donated our genealogy books and periodicals to the Sacramento Public Library's Central Branch, located at 828 I Street, Sacramento, CA 95814. They are now part of the library's genealogy collection. Some parts of the G.A.S. collection are not cataloged, but have their own finding tools. There is a Title Index (not content) to periodicals published by other genealogical groups, and a Surname index to pedigree charts submitted by early G.A.S. members. You must ask library staff for access to the periodicals and pedigree charts.
